A board designed to have all of the I/O, expansion slots, additional headers, etc. This board does not have a CPU or chipset. It is designed with a specific type of interface that will receive a smaller board that contains the chipset and CPU and does all of the major computation. Because the carrier board does not have the processor or chipset, it is much easier to design than a regular motherboard.
